Sometimes on April

Just a quick movie review:

We had the first part of our ITU today and as part of this ITU, we watched a movie. The movie is about what REALLY happened during the year 1994 in Rwandan, Africa wherein there was a genocide committed by the Hutus. (Well, there was this division between the Rwandis; they were divided into two ethnicity after the Germans and Belgians have colonized the country and these ethnic tribes were called, Hutus and Tutsis)

After the continuous killings, there were more than 800,000 people that were killed. Augustine, the protagonist had his family and friend killed. His friend, Xavier was killed in front of him and his sons were killed innocently. Her wife was saved but was raped by the soldiers. But his wife is just too brave and just opened a grenade while she’s in the room with the rapists.

His daughter was also killed while she’s in school.

In the movie, you can really see how humans had acted like animals and treated others like useless creatures. It is very horrifying to see or watch such reality. They’ve killed many people physically and their existence has been defined by what they’ve done. But how about our existence? Maybe you’ll hate them as you watch the movie but unaware of our actions, we have also committed genocide among our peers.

We are killing them, mentally, spiritually and even emotionally. We sometimes reject their presence and ignore them. We are sometimes indifferent and we don’t even realize this.

Why don’t we just make our existence a meaningful one. An existence where we make right and just decisions; decisions where we’re not the only person who’ll benefit from it- an unselfish decision.
